Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry revealed Wed. that marijuana is still Dominican Republic’s most widely consumed drug, with 1,980 kilos seized in 2014, or 69.7% of all drugs incinerated by the Forensic Science Institute (INACIF).

Cocaine is second with 840 kilos seized, or 29.56%, followed by heroin (13.5 kilos or 0.48%) and crack at 7 kilos or 0.25%.

INACIF statistics show that around eight tons of various types of drugs seized nationwide have been incinerated from January 9 to December 23 this year

The Justice Ministry stressed that the amount doesn’t include drugs seized in international waters involving Dominican Republic Antinarcotics agencies, since those cases aren’t prosecuted in the country.
