Ex senator continues jailhouse antics

Santo Domingo,. – The lawyer for ex Dominican Republic senator for the opposition PRD party Tonty Rutinel affirmed Monday that the deadline to post the bond for his release already expired yesterday, for which he’ll be sent to the jail to serve out a sentence yet to be handed down.

Junior Ramirez said the contracts to post bond need his client’s signature, and until Rutinel signs them the bail cannot be paid.

The lawyer said the Office of the Prosecutor hasn’t shown any indication it will accept anything less than the RD$1.5 million bond set for the PRD leader, stemming from charges he battered his wife.

Rutinel’s antics began one day after his arrest, when he despite getting the court to set bond, refused to leave his jail cell at the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse.
