Foreign Minister signs UN Arms Trade Treaty

New York.- Foreign minister Carlos Morales on Monday signed the Arms Trade Treaty on behalf of the Dominican government, at a ceremony in the United Nations, together with 60 other dignitaries.

The Treaty will take effect ninety days after the date when fifty states have submitted their ratification to accept or approve the pact.

After signing, Morales called on the international community "to accelerate the treaty’s entry into force.".

He noted that the pact’s approval was the result of a laborious process of nearly seven years of diplomatic negotiations, adding that its implementation "cannot wait any longer."
