Notorious deputy snubs the Environment Prosecutor

Santo Domingo.- The notorious deputy Juan Hubieres left Environment Defense prosecutor Andres Chalas waiting today, despite being subpoenaed for questioning on charges that he and 20 others destroyed the protected area at Los Farallones, on the Ecological Avenue of Santo Domingo East.

Chalas said a bailiff issued papers on lawmaker to appear before the National District Commercial Chamber, a version refuted by the legislator’s lawyer Tomas Castro.

But Chalas vowed to subpoena Hubieres for a near date again, “and in the event the legislator refuses to appear, the Penal Procedural Code establishes the mechanisms to force him to abide by the subpoena.”

The case stems from a forced eviction of Hubieres and a group of bus owners from the protected area early December, an incident in which he was injured in one eye.

Hubieres, who the local media dub as one of the “country’s owners” for the fear he strikes in the authorities, is charged with taking over lands within a protected area, where he was confronted by Santo Domingo East Municipal Police.
