Santo Domingo.- The governments of the Dominican Republic and Haiti today launched the action campaign "Hispaniola without cholera," aimed at eradicating the disease within five years.
The program, promoted by the Pan-American Health Organization, was launched during a ceremony in the National Palace, where Dominican and Haitian senior officials and other personalities participated.
Local Public Health minister Bautista Rojas listed the efforts by Dominican authorities to confront the disease, specially the sanitary measures applied along the border last year.
As part of the event, president Leonel Fernandez spoke via videoconference, in which he highlighted the campaign against cholera and reiterated Dominican Republic’s commitment to continue aiding Haiti.
Among the officials from Port-au-Prince present was Haitian ambassador in the country Fritz Cineas.
