Opposition party leaders ready for convention

Santo Domingo.– The opposition party (PRD) starts its thirtieth ordinary convention Sunday, immersed in the same internal chaos that began after the process for choosing its presidential candidate on March 6, 2011.

Guido Gomez Mazara, candidate for the PRD presidency, is still active and challenged current president Miguel Vargas to a public debate, ensuring that Vargas’s institutional model is unbalanced.

Although he is attacked by some activists and leaders linked to former president Hipolito Mejia, Gomez Mazara defines himself as "the president of the foundations," and claims to have the support of many who feel the desire of engaging in an internal process.
