Despite embezzlement indictment, mayor still handles taxpayers money

Santo Domingo.- Despite being indicted for allegedly embezzling more than RD$100.0 million, San Francisco de Macoris (northeast) mayor Felix M. Rodriguez is still handling taxpayers money after his release on bond. .

Julian Roa, head of the mayors grouped in the Asodore, said Rodriguez may continue to exercise his functions and can only be suspended if he’s incarcerated or when his trial begins.

Duarte Province Appellate Court judge Claudio A. Medrano released Rodríguez on a RD$5.0 million bond, is banned from leaving the country and must report to the Office of the Prosecutor once a month during six months.
