“Put down the thugs,” senior senator tells Police

Santo Domingo.- In an apparent fit of exasperation, the spokesman for the senators of Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party on Wednesday asked the National Police to "put down” the criminals.

José María Sosa’s surprising request comes in the wake of a machete attack on alleged gang members by rivals, which left 29 people wounded in a street bar at the Los Alcarrizos subdivision of Santo Domingo province.

The San Pedro province senator called the incident unacceptable which the authorities shouldn’t tolerate. "What these individuals have done is a challenge."

For Peravia Province senator Wilton Guerrero, the attack against all the people in the "Riconcito de Jose Bar" was “blood-curling.”
