Dominican-born NY lawmaker calls run for Congress unstoppable

New York.- N.Y. State Dominican-born senator Adriano Espaillat on Sunday said the coalition supporting his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives’ 13th Congressional district is unstoppable.

"It’s an immense support, from the Municipal Council President to Upper Manhattan’s political leaders such as Council members Ydanis Rodríguez, Mark Levine and Assemblywoman Gabriela Rosa, to State Senator from the Bronx Gustavo Rivera, among many others," the lawmaker said.

"There’ll be some more out there and those backups are extremely important and I believe they’ll form an impressive and diverse coalition," Espaillat said.

Espaillat, campaigning for a Congressional seat for the second time, again faces Harlem democrat political powerhouse Charles Rangel, who has held the post for more than 40 years.

Pundits says Rangel could be at the end of his political career, since among other factors, his support base has eroded significantly in the past two years including some major allies, such as Mark Viverito, who is backing the Assemblyman.
