Medina calls for Caribbean integration in Caricom summit

Santo Domingo.– President Danilo Medina returned Friday from a trip to Trinidad and Tobago, after attending the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) 34th Conference of Heads of State and Government.

He was accompanied by ministers of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo, and of Administration, José Ramón Peralta, the CEO of the State-owned Electric Utility, Ruben Jimenez, Santo Domingo province senator Cristina Lizardo, and San Juan province deputy Lucia Medina.

In his speech, the Dominican Head of State reiterated the country’s commitment to cooperation, regional integration, peace, solidarity and the creation of employment and development opportunities for the citizens of each Caribbean nation.

As CARICOM marked its 40th anniversary on Thursday and in the opening ceremony Trinidad and Tobago prime minister and Caricom Chairman Kamla Persad-Bissessar, recommended granting full membership to the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean countries.
