Bus, truck collision in Dominican Republic kills 10

Santo Domingo.- As many as 10 people died and several were hurt Monday night when a tractor trailer collided head on with a bus near Tabara Abajo, on the Southern highway between Barahona and Azua.

Among the deceased figure Wanda González Vólquez, 39, and Ney Gonzalez Volquez, 57, residents of Tamayo township. They were both on the bus that was returning from Santo Domingo.

Residents of the towns of Altamira, Vicente Noble, El Jobo, Monserrat and other villages also figure among the fatalities.

Rescuers and motorists helped the wounded who were taken to nearby hospitals.

According to reports, the 30-passenger bus returning to Tamayo from Santo Domingo was driven by Domingo Batista Núñez (Mingo), who was also severely injured.
