Navy detains 10 Haitians alleged fish poachers at Montecristi

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Navy on Wednesday announced the arrest of 10 Haitians in Manzanillo Bay, Montecristi, where they were poaching fish, EFE reports.

The arrest of Haitian nationals for poaching fish has become commonplace in the country’s northwest and southwest, where local fishermen complain of routine illegal fishing.

In a statement, the Navy said the alleged poachers were detained while aboard two boats, and transferred to the Naval Post at Manzanillo Port, to be handed over to the Immigration Agency in the next few hours.
