Alleged Dominican drug lord’s antics delay extradition

Santo Domingo. – The extraditable Ramon Antonio del Rosario Puente (Toño Leña) yesterday dismissed his lawyers Tomas Castro and Ricardo Sanchez right in the Supreme Court’s Penal Chamber, for which the justices Hugo Alvarez, Ana Rosa Bergés and Victor Jose Castellanos set a new hearing for November 21, the ninth thus far.

Del Rosario’s firing of his attorneys lawyers was a last ditch effort to postpone the proceeding for his extradition to Puerto Rico to face drug trafficking and money laundering charges, and the Supreme Court will now appoint a public defender.

“Kill the rooster in the sack”

During the hearing lead prosecutor Gisela Cueto cite the popular expression “Kill the rooster in the sack” to describe the desperate efforts by del Rosario’s attorneys to delay the proceeding.

Also mentioned in the hearing was the rumor that Puerto Rico District Attorney Rosa Rodriguez Vélez had communicated with del Rosario’s lawyers to annul the extradition request. “That lawyer must be full of hot air, because he’s a liar” Cueto said.
