More cops, military nabbed with drugs

Santo Domingo.- The National Drugs Control Agency on Thursday announced the arrest of three national police officers Criminal Investigations Div. and an Army corporal, together with four civilians caught with two packages of a powder presumably cocaine or heroin.

The arrest of the group is the latest in a series of cases involving police agents and military, including senior officers with ranks as high as colonel.

The DNCD said Police 1st Lt. Winston Liriano Martinez, Sgt. Guillermo Adriano Ruiz, agent Edwin Osaylin Cornielle, 21, and Army Cpl. Aníbal Enrique Diaz were arrested Tuesday night on Caamaño Av., site of the alleged drug deal.

DNCD spokesman Miguel Medina said the police Lieutenant and the agent, together with one of the civilians were arrested with two packages of the substance in a Honda Logo, while the others were in another vehicle, adding that a rifle, four 9 mm pistols, cell phones and bullet-proof vests were confiscated from the military.
