Zogby poll: Opposition candidate leads by 16 points

SANTO DOMINGO. – A survey by the American company Zogby Analytics says Dominican Republic opposition PRD party presidential candidate Hipólito Mejía has 56% of the votes, to 40% for his opponent of the ruling PLD party Danilo Medina, a 16 point advantage.

John Zogby, president of the pollster, said the survey interviewed 843 people, three days before the First lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez was announced as Medina’s running mate. He also noted the numbers can change in the coming months until election day.

When asked for what party they’d vote, 54 of every 100 registered voters said they would cast their ballot for the PRD; 42 for the PLD and one for the once majority PRSC party.
