Traffic cops impound thousands of motorbikes, autos

Santo Domingo.- The Metropolitan Transit Authority (Amet) Monday said it impounded 5,318 motorcycles and 957 vehicles during Easter week, for various infractions by their owners.

It said it retained 626 heavy and 331 light vehicles, including pickup trucks with passengers in the back.

In statement, Amet said its actions sought to prevent traffic accidents and injuries to motorcyclists riding without a helmet, and to stop the trucks on the roads without proper authorization.
