Opposition leader woos bitter rival’s daughter as ticket mate

Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.- Opposition PRD party president Miguel Vargas on Tuesday said "it wouldn’t bother me or dislike" as a ticket mate Carolina Mejia, daughter of former president and bitter rival Hipolito Mejia, for the 2016 presidential election.

"We were unaware of that notion, but it neither bothers me nor dislike it, that is, that there’s no problem," Vargas told reporters.

He said while meetings in that regard have yet to take place, he’s open to all the help to get the PRD into office.

Vargas, speaking at PRD headquarters, also affirmed having reached a “90% consensus” in all municipalities to renew the PRD’s leadership, "which is extraordinary news of importance for the conventional process we’re developing."
