Facebook traps another gabby judge

Santo Domingo.- National District Instruction Court judge Margarita Cristo Cristo, who handles the request to drop the embezzlement and money-laundering charges against former Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rua, on Tuesday declined to respond to National District prosecutor’s challenge of her hearing the case.

Cristo didn’t refer to the reasons cited by Yeni Berenice Reynoso to object her as presiding judge over the case.

Reynoso’s challenge occurred in Friday’s hearing when she showed a comment by Cristo on Facebook, where the judge allegedly accuses the Prosecutor of " not knowing law and acts as a TV star."

After the hearing it was learned that Cristo deleted the Facebook comment.

Cristo’s case is common in the country, where judges are unusually gabby, a situation first attributed to former Supreme Court chief justice Jorge Subero’s thirst “to chase reporters and microphones.”
