High Court probes Prosecutor-Instruction Judge row

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court of chief justice Mariano German on Tuesday revealed an investigation into Instruction court judge Margarita Cristo, in the wake of allegations she has released major drug traffickers and her public dispute with National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso.

He said the Prosecutor has yet to file a complaint but noted however that as Chief Justice, he must refrain from statement into the row.

On Friday Reynoso challenged Cristo’s president over the case against former Public Works minister Víctor Díaz Rúa, but the judge refused. The Prosecutor then left the hearing, calling the country’s judicial system an embarrassment.

On Sunday the movement Citizen Participation asked Cristo not to take part in the case, noting that she had lost credibility after the Prosecutor’s challenge.
