Santo Domingo.- APEC Centers for Distance Education (CENAPEC), in collaboration with the Baseball academies of the Dominican Republic, has successfully graduated 76 high school students for the 2022-2023 academic year. This initiative marks a 16-year partnership between CENAPEC and Major League Baseball (MLB) academies, extending its academic program to a majority of them.
Dr. Pilar Constanzo, the executive director of CENAPEC, emphasized the broader opportunities provided to these young athletes through the education offered by the institution. She highlighted that not only does it contribute to their growth in the realm of sports, but it also enhances their professional development.
The MLB management commended the program for enabling athletes from Major League academies to pursue a Bachelor’s degree concurrently with their training to become professional baseball players.
CENAPEC has notably supported the graduation of students from prominent academies such as the New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Yankees.
This educational initiative addresses the unique challenges faced by aspiring athletes who, in pursuit of reaching the major leagues, often find it challenging to pursue traditional education. The CENAPEC program offers them the flexibility to receive education in their own space, allowing them to develop in various areas, even if their ultimate goal in the sport is not realized.
