Man arrested for stealing electricity meters in Colonial Zone

SANTO DOMINGO. The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (Edeeste), informs that a man was apprehended when he stole several electricity meters installed in different houses located in the Colonial Zone.

According to the information provided, this is Erikberto David Adames, a resident of Benito Gonzalez Street, San Carlos sector, in the National District, who, when questioned about the allegations against him, admitted his responsibility.

Erikberto David Adames is accused of stealing electric meters belonging to several houses located on Santome Street, Colonial Zone, National District, specifically, between George Washington Avenue (Malecon) and Jose Gabriel Garcia Street.

At the time of his arrest, Mr. Adames was found with parts and copper wires used for the assembly of the electric meters, according to images provided by the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM).

Erikberto David Adames will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes, indicated the police.

According to information from Edeeste, only in the current month, 49 meters have been stolen from different houses within its concession zone.

The company recalled that it is currently in an operation of normalization of clients, with the installation of meters, after a millionaire investment, in order to satisfy all its clients.

In view of this fact, the energy company says that it will initiate the corresponding legal processes for theft of property of the Dominican state.

Edeeste also urges the citizens to be alert and denounce this type of acts that not only affect state property, but also affect the quality of energy service.
