Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant) announced on Monday that it is in the process of regulating the circulation of motorcycles engaged in home delivery services.
The institution disclosed its intention to present a draft regulatory resolution to the Intrant Board of Directors (Codintrant) to oversee traffic and road safety aspects associated with such services.
Outlined in an official statement, this initiative emphasizes the use of technology as a pivotal element for supervision and control, aiming to establish a safer operating framework for motorcycles involved in delivery services. The goal is to enhance mobility through effective measures that yield tangible benefits to the entire community, promoting a culture of safer driving.
Intrant outlined a series of measures to be implemented, seeking sustainable solutions in the short and medium term to bolster road safety in the country. The proposed standards include overseeing compliance with essential operational requirements, such as licenses for companies, driver’s licenses, driver education training, sustainable workloads, and personnel vetting through data records.
Additionally, Intrant aims to enforce supervisory measures using technology, particularly for speed control and addressing other traffic violations by delivery partners and operators in the sector.
Another objective outlined by Intrant is to provide motorcyclists with numerical codes to facilitate identification. This measure aims to individualize responsibility for offenders using video surveillance cameras from the National 911 Emergency and Security Assistance System.
Colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, the interim executive director, emphasized the importance of collaborating with this sector, recognizing it as a crucial service for citizens and a source of income for both drivers and businesses utilizing this delivery service for their products.
