Santo Domingo.- The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) issued Resolution No. 46-2024 this Tuesday, March 5, immediately suspending passenger and cargo air operations to and from the Republic of Haiti. Dr. José Ernesto Marte Piantini, the president of the organization, confirmed the decision.
The official announcement, relayed by correspondent Pavel Arias, stated that the suspension of air transport between the two nations takes immediate effect. This decision is grounded in Article 9 of the International Civil Aviation Convention, which grants each contracting State the right to temporarily restrict or prohibit flights over its territory in exceptional circumstances, emergencies, or for public safety reasons.
The resolution mandates the communication of this decision to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Ministry of Defense, Dominican Air Force, Ministry of Tourism, and General Directorate of Customs. Additionally, it must be conveyed to the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, National Intelligence Directorate, Specialized Corps in Airport and Civil Aviation Security, Airport Department, Association of Airlines of the Dominican Republic, Dominican Association of Airlines, International Airports of the Dominican Republic, Intelligence Directorate of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Ministry of Defense (J2), and the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cybersecurity, and Intelligence Center of the Armed Forces (C5i).
