Puerto Plata – With an investment that reached one million dollars, the company Carnival Cruise Corporation inaugurated this Friday in Puerto Plata some 1,800 solar panels with the capacity to produce one-megawatt alternator of electric energy.
This modality will allow to cover 80 percent of the demand of the facilities that the Amber Cove cruise port has and that the Carnival company manages in the district of Maimón of the municipality of Puerto Plata.
This activity was headed by the president of this nautical company, Christine Duffy, who was accompanied by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos and other civil, military and representative authorities of the Puerto Plata Civil Society.
Mrs. Duffy emphasized the importance of this project. With an investment that reached the million dollars, the Carnival Cruise Corporation inaugurated this Friday in Puerto Plata about 1,800 solar panels with a capacity to produce about one megawatt of electrical energy.
This modality will allow to cover the 80 percent of the demand of the facilities of the cruise port Amber Cove, managed by Carnival in the district of Maimon in the municipality of Puerto Plata.
This activity was headed by the president of this nautical company, Christine Duffy, who was accompanied by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos and other civil, military and representative authorities of the Puerto Plata Civil Society.
Mrs. Duffy emphasized the importance of this initiative, which seeks to consolidate the efforts made by Carnival in favor of the city in order to reduce to the maximum the carbon footprint of its operations in its cruise terminal located in the community of Maimon.
He noted that this investment seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in his company, which has the goal of reducing emissions in all its components to 20 percent by the year 2030.
Minister Santos valued this initiative and the fact that with this new investment the Carnival company shows that it is a long-range partner for our country.
He praised the positive impact that cruise tourism is having on this important destination.
Meanwhile, the president of the board of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), Alejandro Dantos, highlighted this investment made by Carnival in the installation of this set of solar panels, which projects an important growth in its operations for this year.
This act was blessed by the bishop of the Puerto Plata-Gaspar Hernández diocese, Monsignor Julio Cesar Cornielle Amaro.
Also in attendance were the provincial governor, Claritza Rochette Senior; the vice minister of Tourism, Roberto Henríquez; the vice presidents of Carnival Vicky Rey, David Candib; the district director of Maimón, Elba Tineo, among others, and the same seeks to consolidate the efforts made by Carnival in favor of sustainability in order to reduce to the maximum the carbon footprint of its operations in its cruise terminal located in the community of Maimón.
