Madrid, Spain.- Yesterday in Madrid, the Dominican Government unveiled its project for establishing the Network of Dominican Centers Abroad. This initiative aims to showcase and promote the artistic and historical richness of the Dominican Republic while fostering the integration of the Dominican community worldwide.
The presentation was led by Roberto Ángel Salcedo, the General Director of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep), Carlos de la Mota, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Dominican Communities Abroad and Executive Director of the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), and Juan Bolívar Díaz, the Dominican Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. The event took place at the headquarters of the José Ortega y Gasset Foundation.
Salcedo emphasized President Luis Abinader’s and the government’s commitment to promoting the project, encouraging active participation from Dominicans abroad. The goal is for the diaspora to contribute to highlighting and promoting the cultural values, developmental progress, changes, and institutional strengthening achieved during Abinader’s administration since August 2020.
Quoting President Abinader’s commitment, Salcedo reiterated, “No matter where in the world a Dominican is, his government will always be on his side.” He announced the opening of one of these centers in Madrid and urged the Dominican community to engage in the project by implementing their ideas and creativity for the benefit of their communities and the country.
Vice Minister Carlos de la Mota praised the initiative, noting its synergy with the work conducted by INDEX through its 11 offices in cities with higher concentrations of Dominicans abroad. He expressed optimism about the potential of these centers to expand the Dominican Government’s efforts, serving as platforms to exhibit and promote the country’s artistic and historical wealth. The aim is to enhance the integration of Dominican communities globally through various programs and projects.
Accompanying De la Mota were the directors of MIREX for Research and Study, Pablo Asencio, and Communication, Rayvelis Roa, along with the person in charge of the INDEX Office in Spain, Leonardo Marrero. The event saw attendance from special guests representing the government of the city of Madrid, as well as individuals from academic, business, artistic, and cultural backgrounds, along with community organizations.
