Jumbo presents book “Collections of Dominican words and expressions”

Santo Domingo.- In celebration of Dominican independence, Jumbo unveiled the book “Collection of Dominican Words and Expressions,” showcasing a selection of distinctive words and phrases originating from their campaign, “Ser Dominicano es lo Máximo de la A la Z” (Being Dominican is the Best from A to Z).

This compilation, available digitally on the website www.serdominicanoeslomaximo.com, was created through a contest held in February 2023. Jumbo initiated the dynamic by sharing a letter along with the definition of a word or phrase and invited users to contribute their definitions or expressions beginning with the same letter. The campaign generated over 5,000 comments per publication, involving more than 12,000 users.

Recognizing the value of these contributions, Jumbo decided to release the collection as a tribute to Dominican culture and authenticity. The digital version of the book, containing 220 pages and over 7,000 Creole words and phrases, represents a small sample of Dominican creativity and wit in everyday conversations.

Madelyn Martínez, Vice President of Marketing and Financial Retail at Centro Cuesta Nacional, expressed her surprise at the overwhelming response from followers. She stated, “These contributions had a lot of value and represented the essence of what we are as Dominicans; reflecting not only the creativity of our people, but also how authentic and diverse we are.”

The book launch took place at Ágora Mall, where details about the development process were shared. The event, hosted by Nashla Bogaert, featured special appearances by comedians Raymond Pozo and Miguel Céspedes, who entertained attendees with a Dominican-style tongue twister.

Dominican culture permeated every aspect of the event, with tastings of typical Dominican delicacies and a themed photo space. Several allied brands also participated, sharing their Dominican products with the audience.

Jumbo emphasizes that they do not claim ownership of these words and expressions, as they belong to the Dominican people. The compilation stands as a flavorful and aromatic representation of Dominican identity, presented to the public as a collective achievement.
