Puerto Rico.- AES, the electric company, has recently announced the completion of a groundbreaking renewable energy project in the southern region of Puerto Rico. This initiative comprises the establishment of two solar power plants, boasting a collective capacity of 200 megawatts, alongside two storage systems with a combined capacity of 200 megawatts. The integrated output from these facilities is an impressive 400 megawatts, making it the largest renewable energy project in the Caribbean.
Underscoring AES’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy, the project is slated for completion by the end of 2025. A key highlight of this initiative is the seamless integration of the two solar power plants and storage systems into the National Electric System of Puerto Rico. Facilitated by two substations and 115-kilowatt lines, this integration ensures the efficient and reliable distribution of the generated energy.
AES, a trailblazer in energy storage installation in the Caribbean, previously demonstrated its pioneering spirit in 2017 with the installation of the first energy accumulators in the Dominican Republic. These accumulators, located in the AES Andrés (10 megawatts) and Dominican Power Partners (10 megawatts) generators, marked a significant milestone in advancing clean energy solutions in the region.
As a company, AES has been at the forefront of driving positive and enduring change in the energy sector, addressing the critical needs of all stakeholders involved. With a history of innovation and commitment to sustainability, AES continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the energy landscape.
