Pro Consumidor implements preventive measures against adulterated alcohol for Easter

Santo Domingo.- The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) and the Specialized Body for Fuel and Illicit Control have initiated preventive measures for Easter to curb the sale of adulterated alcohol.

Eddy Alcántara, the executive director of the entity, elaborated on these operations taking place in major cities across the country, including the National District, Santiago, Puerto Plata, La Romana, Barahona, Higüey, La Vega, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná, and others.

He explained, “The operations encompass inspection and surveillance actions, advertising verification, good commercial practices, and consumer orientation days to safeguard and ensure the rights of consumers during the Semana Mayor holiday.”

As part of the operation, various establishments related to the sale of products and services during the season are under scrutiny. Alcántara specified that these inspections cover department stores, supermarkets, restaurants, fishmongers, inns, hotels, travel agencies, bus tire inspections, as well as monitoring tourist package offers advertised through social networks and retail stores.

He emphasized that vigilant measures are being taken in the market to prevent the sale of expired, rusty, and substandard products in tourist areas or food stores across the country, ensuring that items with compromised quality standards do not pose health and safety risks to consumers.
