Former presidents likely candidates: Poll

Santo Domingo.- Former president Leonel Fernández will be the candidate for Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD) party in the 2016 election, according to 47.3% of its rank and file.

A survey by the Asisa Research Group done May 9 to 11 found that Fernandez would be elected in a party primary, followed by vice president Margarita Cedeño, with 31.1%.

In the opposition PRD party meanwhile, 47.7% of its members said former president Hipolito Mejía will be the candidate, followed by Luis Abinader, his former ticket mate in the 2012 election, with 38%, according to the poll published by newspaper El Caribe.
