United Nations sends humanitarian aid to Haiti

Haiti.- The United Nations (UN) continues its humanitarian efforts in Haiti amidst the ongoing crisis and surge of violence in the country.

This information was shared by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti via its official channels. “United Nations flights persist between Haiti and Santo Domingo, delivering crucial humanitarian aid,” stated the message on social media, accompanied by an image depicting a helicopter unloading boxes of supplies.

On March 14, the UN announced the initiation of an airlift operation aimed at assisting the Haitian population.

The Civil Aviation Board has designated La Isabela International Airport, Joaquín Balaguer, as one of the terminals for the “air bridge” between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, facilitating the reception of humanitarian aid, as per a resolution issued. This extraordinary measure, prompted by the escalating violence in Haiti, will remain in effect until further notice.

Haiti is presently undergoing the establishment of a transitional presidential council, tasked with appointing a new prime minister following Ariel Henry’s resignation, announced during a national address from Puerto Rico, where he had been out of public view for several days.

Additionally, the country anticipates the deployment of a multinational security support mission sanctioned by the UN and spearheaded by Kenya.
