The eighth victim of the Salcedo carnival dies

Santo Domingo.- The Executive Directorate of the Robert Reid Cabral Pediatric Hospital announced on Tuesday the passing of Esteban Hernández, a 14-year-old teenager who sustained severe burns during a fire at the final carnival parade in the municipality of Hermanas Mirabal province on Sunday, March 10th.

Tragically, the incident has claimed the lives of eight individuals: Adriel Leonardo, aged five, Ángel Miguel Santos Ovalles, 13, Joel Alexander García, six, Aquel de Jesús Diloné, Henry Rosario Ortega, César Junior Poland, 15, and Janelvi Jiménez, eight.

The fire erupted as the Los Toros carnival group was preparing for their performance, ignited by a spark from a box of fireworks coming into contact with the participants’ costumes.

In response to the incident, the Permanent Attention Office of the judicial district of Hermanas Mirabal province has imposed house arrest on Elvis Miguel Santos de Jesús, who stands accused of handling the fireworks that triggered the fire. Additionally, Guillermo García Perdomo has been ordered to make periodic presentations for six months for his alleged involvement in the sale of pyrotechnic products.
