Punta Cana Airport earns AEO certification

Punta Cana.- Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) has become the first airport in the Dominican Republic to achieve certification as an authorized economic operator (AEO) from the World Customs Organization (WCO). This prestigious recognition was bestowed upon the air terminal for its exemplary administrative management, economic stability, security protocols for business partners, container and cargo unit security, as well as robust physical security measures, as detailed in an official press release.

Furthermore, the certification encompasses various aspects such as access control, personnel security, process integrity, information technology security, and training on security awareness and threats.

AEO certification is a globally recognized accreditation awarded to airports that demonstrate adherence to stringent security measures and best practices within the international merchandise supply chain. According to the World Customs Organization (WCO), airports receive AEO status when they fulfill specific criteria, thus being acknowledged as reliable partners in the supply chain.

As defined by the OMA, an authorized economic operator is an individual or entity involved in the international logistics chain that, upon meeting the prerequisites set forth by regulatory authorities, is certified by the General Directorate of Customs for ensuring secure and trustworthy trade operations.

This program, adopted by all member countries of the World Customs Organization during its general assembly in 2005 under the SAFE regulatory framework, aims to facilitate and guarantee safe international trade operations.
