Santo Domingo.- Masahiro Takagi, the ambassador of Japan to the Dominican Republic, has announced his country’s commitment to promoting the expansion of mass transportation services, particularly focusing on the Santo Domingo Metro, with a view towards more practical and cost-effective operations.
Takagi revealed that Japanese companies are advocating for the utilization of cars with smaller yet more powerful engines in the expansion and development of Line 3 of the Santo Domingo Metro. This proposed line will extend to the International Airport of the Americas, offering enhanced connectivity.
Emphasizing transparency in competition with other nations, Takagi proposed a construction approach that avoids the need for evictions or demolitions of existing buildings.
During an appearance on the Tele Diario program, hosted by communicator Robert González, Takagi expressed Japan’s willingness to collaborate on water desalination projects aimed at making seawater potable for consumption.
Highlighting Japanese investment initiatives, Takagi mentioned a commitment of over ninety million dollars for the establishment of vehicle wiring factories, aimed at fostering employment opportunities within the Dominican Republic.
Furthermore, the diplomat underscored the significant increase in imports from Japan, particularly in the machinery sector, notably fuel vehicles.
Takagi also elaborated on Japan’s cultural and agricultural influences in the Dominican Republic, citing ninety years of diplomatic relations and sixty years of immigration. He specifically mentioned the impact on gastronomy and agriculture, particularly in towns such as Jarabacoa in the Cibao region.
