Santo Domingo.- The NGO New Life for Waste (NUVI) unveiled its “Collaborate” campaign, aimed at fostering collaboration, transformation, and positive environmental impact through the circular economy.
“In a world where collaboration is paramount, ‘Collaborate’ emphasizes the concept of joining forces for the greater good. We aim to communicate and educate on how simple actions like separating and collecting plastic bottles can significantly contribute to environmental preservation,” stated Mariely Ponciano, executive director of NUVI.
Vice Minister of Industrial Development of the MICM, Fantino Polanco, underscored the significance of this project, noting, “This public-private alliance between the MICM, the AIRD, and NUVI to support integrated solid waste management systems for recovery in the Dominican Republic aligns with the mandates of Law 37-17. The Vice Ministry of Industrial Development is tasked with promoting a culture and practices of sustainable production and consumption.”
“Collaborate” encourages individuals to incorporate the separation and collection of plastic bottles into their daily routines, depositing them at strategically located NUVI collection points across Santo Domingo.
Additionally, the campaign features the NUVI Marketplace platform, facilitating waste transactions to expand reuse and extend the life of waste materials by transforming them into secondary raw materials.
Since its inception in 2020, the NUVI PET system has successfully collected over 80 million plastic bottles. Ponciano expressed optimism about the initiative’s impact, stating, “Our mission is to turn solid waste into an opportunity, generating hundreds of new green jobs in our economy.”
The campaign has garnered support from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs, along with collaboration from the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), Ecored, Adiplast, Asibenas, Adocem, and over 20 other companies. Its primary objective is to demonstrate to citizens how easily they can participate and contribute to waste collection and management efforts in their daily lives.
