Following the agreement reached just a month ago, the Presidential Transition Council of Haiti has been formally established. The announcement came with the publication of the corresponding decree in the official bulletin ‘Le Moniteur’.
Tasked with addressing the leadership vacuum and restoring order in Haiti amidst a surge of violence, the council’s formation was underscored by a decree published in “Le Moniteur”. This development comes in the wake of Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s announcement of his intention to resign amid escalating attacks by criminal gangs in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
Outlined in the decree, the transitional presidential council’s mandate is set to conclude no later than February 7, 2026. Additionally, the decree emphasizes the urgent need for the council to promptly appoint a prime minister and establish an inclusive government.
While the council has been established, it has yet to assume formal governance of the country. Prime Minister Henry is expected to tender his resignation following the appointment of a new prime minister, as stipulated in the document.
