No legal action against Aerodom for Boeing 787 damage

Santo Domingo.- Luis José López, the Director of Communications at Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), has clarified that Air Europa is not currently pursuing legal action, contrary to speculation, following an incident where one of its aircraft was affected by a runway “hole” at Las Américas International Airport (AILA).

Addressing the potential lawsuit, López stated that such claims are unfounded. He explained that these incidents are operational in nature and occur with some frequency at airports worldwide. The priority, he noted, is conducting an investigation to determine responsibility and ensure appropriate accountability. López confirmed that Aerodom is actively engaged in this investigative process.

Providing an update on the Air Europa aircraft, López mentioned that it is undergoing comprehensive repairs in Madrid. While specifics of the repairs are managed by the airline, Aerodom remains in continuous communication and has initiated contact with their insurance provider to address any necessary actions.

Regarding the runway at the airport, López stated that it is currently operational following a temporary solution. However, a permanent repair involving PG82 asphalt to the required depth is scheduled in the coming days. López assured that Aerodom is coordinating with airlines to minimize disruptions during this repair process.

López emphasized Aerodom’s commitment to learning from this incident and implementing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. He underscored the seriousness of the event and Aerodom’s dedication to addressing it promptly and comprehensively.

“At no point have we downplayed the severity of the incident,” López emphasized. “Everyone at Aerodom is working tirelessly to understand the root cause, implement necessary changes, and invest in a definitive solution to prevent such incidents in the future.”
