ONAMET’s update on weather conditions

Santo Domingo.- The National Meteorological Office (ONAMET) issued a report this Tuesday, indicating the continuation of cloudy conditions leading to moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and possibly small hail across various regions including the northeast, southeast, north, Central Mountain Range, and the border area.

The provinces most likely to be affected include La Altagracia, Monte Plata, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Elías Piña, Pedernales, and others nearby. These precipitation events are attributed to the prevailing humidity and instability caused by an active trough over the national territory at various levels of the troposphere, along with the influence of the east/northeast direction wind.

In response to the anticipated rainfall and expected accumulations over the next 24 to 48 hours, adjustments have been made to the meteorological alert levels. This is due to the potential risks of river, stream, and ravine flooding, urban inundation, as well as the possibility of landslides. Currently, 19 provinces are under different levels of weather alerts, with 7 provinces under warning and 12 under alert status.
