Women were arrested with 89 Supérate cards

Santo Domingo.- Authorities have initiated an investigation into a criminal incident following the circulation of videos on social media and news outlets. According to a statement from the Social Subsidies Administrator (Adess) and the government social protection program Supérate, discussions were held with the security department of the supermarket involved, and the Police High-Tech Crime and Crime Investigation Department (Dicat) has also joined the national probe.

The individuals apprehended in the act are associated with the notorious “chipero” gangs. They will be promptly presented before the judiciary to face appropriate sanctions.

Efforts have been underway since 2023 to transition from strip cards to chip cards, aimed at bolstering security measures to combat card cloning and prevent fund diversion.
