UN helicopter makes emergency landing in Montecristi

Montecristi, DR.- This Wednesday morning, the Sikorsky S-61 helicopter, operated by the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service, made an emergency landing at the Osvaldo Virgil airport in San Fernando de Montecristi.

Originating from Providenciales Island and en route to Cap Haitien, the aircraft encountered adverse weather conditions, prompting the crew to declare an emergency and divert to this northwestern location in the Dominican Republic.

On board were two passengers and four crew members. The helicopter, registered as N907CH, departed around 8:54 a.m. on its intended route to Cap Haitien.

Primarily utilized for the evacuation of North American citizens from Haiti amid the ongoing crisis in the country, the helicopter’s arrival sparked curiosity among local residents, who gathered at the airport upon hearing the roar of its engines.
