UN ambassadors visiting the country

Santo Domingo.- The delegation comprising ambassadors from various countries accredited to the United Nations (UN) was received by President Luis Abinader yesterday as part of their agenda in the country.

Among these diplomats are several members of the UN Security Council, including Ambassador Vanessa Frazier of Malta, who currently chairs the council for the month of April.

President Abinader welcomed the delegation in his private office at the National Palace, alongside Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Álvarez and the permanent ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the UN, José Blanco.

According to a press release, the diplomats aim to familiarize themselves with the Dominican position regarding Haiti.

The ambassadors, hailing from diverse backgrounds, serve as permanent representatives to the UN from Guyana, Carolina Rodríguez-Birkett; Bahrain, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei; the Republic of Benin, Marc Hermanne Gninadoou Araba; the Hellenic Republic (Greece), Evangelos Sekeris; the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir; the State of Kuwait, Tareq MAM Albanai; the State of Libya, Taher MT El-Sonni; the Republic of Slovenia, Bostjan Malovrh; and the Republic of Tajikistan, Jonibek Ismoil Hikmat.

On Wednesday, they met with Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Calos Luciano Díaz Morfa, ERD, to discuss global security, peace, and regional stability issues.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Defense (MIDE), where they exchanged viewpoints on emerging security challenges, border issues, and collaborative strategies to address them effectively. Díaz Morfa reiterated his commitment to the fundamental principles of the UN.

The delegation will engage in further meetings with high-level government officials to discuss trade, investment, security, climate change, and other matters. Additionally, they will tour tourist areas in the Eastern region to observe the country’s tourism development, accompanied by Dominican ambassador José Blanco, the UN representative.
