Spain approves extradition of Francelys Furcal in homicide case

Santo Domingo.- The Kingdom of Spain has granted approval for the extradition of Francelys María Furcal Rodríguez, requested by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, on charges related to the April 2022 killing of Chinese national Jhei Leet (Chen Zongxin), the proprietor of the business where Furcal Rodríguez was employed.

Facilitated by the Directorate of International Legal Cooperation and Human Rights, in collaboration with the National District Prosecutor’s Office, Furcal Rodríguez’s extradition will be executed by agents from the Interpol-Santo Domingo Central Office on May 6, 2024.

Spain’s Council of Ministers authorized the extradition to the Dominican authorities to face the accusations against them.

Previously, on January 15, 2024, the National Court, Criminal Chamber, of Spain, had issued an order to proceed with the jurisdictional phase, subject to the final decision of the Government regarding the extradition request for the Dominican citizen.

Furcal Rodríguez is accused of causing the death of Chen Zongxin in April 2022 at the hardware store owned by the victim, allegedly in response to an attack by the victim. Following the incident, the defendant fled the country. Francelys left the Dominican Republic through irregular means on June 22, 2022, two months after the altercation.

She traveled to Medellín, Colombia, where she spent 41 days in Pereira. In August 2022, using a Colombian identity, she departed for São Paulo, Brazil, and five days later, on August 7, she boarded a flight from São Paulo airport, Brazil, to Doha, Qatar, eventually arriving in Barcelona, Spain, on August 8, 2022, via Paris, France.
