Landfill closed due to water contamination for Cabo Rojo hotels

Pedernales.- The Government has ordered the technical closure of the landfill situated in the water storage and pumping area designated to supply hotels in the tourist zone of Cabo Rojo in Pedernales.

This decision follows numerous complaints regarding the environmental contamination caused by the water being extracted from the subsoil near the solid waste disposal site in the municipality of Pedernales.

While the location for the new landfill has not been determined by local authorities, intensive efforts are underway, with heavy machinery and technical personnel working around the clock to transform the site into an ecological park.

Authorities are actively seeking a suitable area where waste from both the hotels in the tourist hub of Cabo Rojo and that collected in Pedernales can be deposited. Plans include the installation of advanced systems incorporating technology-based sorting processes for recycling, as well as the production of organic fertilizer, as reported by El Nacional.
