Landslides hit Jarabacoa-Manabao highway amid heavy rains

Jarabacoa.- In the wake of recent heavy rainfall in this town, the Jarabacoa-Manabao highway has been significantly impacted by over 30 landslides, resulting in damage to portions of the road surface and nearly obstructing passage. In response to this critical situation, various sectors, including the Tayoteros Association of Manabao, have urgently appealed to the Ministry of Public Works and Communications for swift intervention before the route becomes entirely impassable.

For insights into the matter, our publication reached out to Engineer Amos Martínez, the technical director of the MOPC. He disclosed that, as per instructions from Minister Deligne Ascención, a commission was dispatched on Tuesday afternoon to assess the extent of the damage in the affected area. Additionally, he assured that teams would be mobilized within hours to clear the debris, comprising rocks and earth, resulting from relentless downpours.

Moreover, flooding has been reported in several sectors of the province, particularly in the central part of the municipality. Areas such as El Mirador, Pinar Quemado, Venecia, and the Hidaka Sector, alongside La Colonia, Las Guazaras, Palo Blanco, La Joya, Barrio Blanco, among others, have experienced inundation, leading to substantial material losses for numerous families.
