Caribbean Tourist School secures reintegration into CDP building

Santo Domingo.- The Peace Court of the First District of the National District has issued ruling No. 064-14-00238, mandating the reinstatement of the Caribbean Tourist School within the premises of the Dominican College of Journalists on George Washington Avenue.

The ruling specifically directs the transfer of facilities leased by the Caribbean Tourist School and the eviction of any individuals or entities currently occupying the CDP building.

Under a contract dated September 10, 2013, the Caribbean Tourist School, represented by its general manager, Mr. Marvin Joel Soriano Robles, and the Dominican College of Journalists, represented by Aurelio Henriquez, entered into a rental agreement. This agreement granted the tourist and hotel training school access to the roof area, the entire third floor, part of the first level, and all parking spaces to facilitate the development of its training programs.

Recalling events from January 27, 2014, when the then-president of the Dominican College of Journalists, Olivo de Leon, barred entry to teaching staff, students, and administrative personnel, the judge deemed this action illegal, illegitimate, and lacking legal basis. Consequently, the verdict mandates immediate reinstatement and requires the CDP and Mr. Olivo de León to cover associated costs.

The ruling in favor of the Tourist School was officially communicated on May 7, 2024.

A decade after the incident, the Dominican College of Journalists and Olivo de León are compelled to relinquish part of the building per the terms of the existing rental contract between the parties.
