Italian tourist attacks Tourist Police officer with hot coffee

Santo Domingo.- An Italian tourist assaulted a Tourist Police officer (Politur) by throwing hot coffee in her face at the airline check-in area in the Las Américas International Airport (AILA).

The incident took place after 4:00 p.m. last Wednesday, May 8, in the passenger pre-check area on the second level of the airport terminal.

The officer, identified as Ogando, was immediately taken to the airport medical clinic to receive treatment for the burns she sustained on her face.

According to reports, the Italian assailant, identified as Antonio Pinto, aged 49, had been stranded at the airport for several days. Although he was present at the terminal, he did not have a reservation to travel on that Wednesday; instead, his reservation was for the following Friday, May 10.

Authorities disclosed that the foreigner claimed to suffer from a perceived persecution, as he made references to being pursued by someone.

It was mentioned that the ticket to return to his country was arranged by his sister from Italy, as reported by the newspaper Listín Diario.

Meanwhile, the assaulted officer received medical attention at the airport medical dispensary and was later discharged.

The tourist was detained in the office of the Politur Central Directorate located within the airport terminal for further processing in connection with the incident.
