Santo Domingo.- Homero Figueroa, spokesperson and Director of Strategy and Communication of the Presidency, clarified this Saturday that the prohibition on the sale of alcoholic beverages is not a measure implemented by the Executive Branch but a mandate of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), in accordance with Organic Law 20-23 of the Electoral Regime.
In a press release, Figueroa explained that according to Article 232 of this law, “from 24 hours before the election, alcoholic beverages may not be sold or distributed for any purpose until twelve hours after the voting has ended.” Thus, this prohibition extends until 12:00 noon on Monday, May 20.
The government spokesperson requested the understanding and cooperation of all citizens in respecting these regulations, which aim to ensure order and tranquility during the electoral process.

The government wishes to clarify that the prohibition on the sale of alcoholic beverages is not a measure implemented by the Executive but a provision of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) in compliance with the legal mandate established in Organic Law 20-23 of the Electoral Regime.
