Citizen Participation reports vote buying in Dominican Elections

Santo Domingo.- The non-partisan civic movement Citizen Participation has reported indicators of vote or ballot buying in 16.6% of the polling stations observed during today’s presidential and congressional elections.

According to the movement, the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) had the highest participation in this unlawful practice, accounting for 15%, followed by the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) with 11%, the People’s Force (FP) with 7%, and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) with 4.5%.

“We condemn the continuation of this practice, although we note a decrease in its prevalence in the current elections,” stated the movement.

Additionally, they highlighted the use of properties near the electoral precincts for electoral purposes.

“In general terms, we are witnessing a well-organized electoral process, indicating progress in our electoral procedures. We urge the voting population to come out and exercise their right to vote for the candidates of their choice this afternoon.”
