Thais Herrera makes history as First Dominican to summit Mount Everest

Mountaineer and adventurer Thais Herrera made history this Tuesday by becoming the first Dominican to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

The achievement was announced through a post on social media.

Herrera had been preparing for this monumental challenge by first climbing Mera Peak in Nepal, which stands at 6,400 meters. She also became the first known Dominican to reach the summit of Mera Peak. Thais undertook this climb to acclimatize her body for the Everest expedition.

“They have been intense weeks without rest days, starting in Ecuador and then continuing in Nepal for this adaptation process,” said Herrera.
