Santo Domingo.- Firefighters from the National District successfully extinguished a fire that broke out this Monday morning in a building used as a warehouse for the “Starlite” Chinese store on Manuela Diez Street, near the corner of Duarte Avenue in the Villa Consuelo sector.

“The fire is now under control. We are in the debris removal and cooling phase,” reported José Luis Frómeta Herasme, the head of the Fire Department, who noted that they received the alert at 8:45 AM.

Frómeta Herasme stated that the cause of the fire is currently unknown. However, a team is conducting an investigation, interviewing the building’s personnel, who are of Chinese nationality.

The affected building has four levels, with the third and fourth floors suffering the most damage. “The third level was 25% burned, while the fourth level was completely destroyed,” detailed Frómeta Herasme.

He also confirmed that “the employees evacuated on time.”
