Senate approves Tax Exemption for digital security cameras

Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Republic has approved a bill in its second reading that exempts digital cameras used in security systems from import taxes.

This initiative extends the exemption period initially provided by Law 171-12, which grants tax exemptions for digital cameras used in private business security systems.

The bill, introduced by Senator Ginnette Bournigal de Jiménez, specifies in Article 3 that “video recording cameras for residences, companies, country properties, condominiums, grocery stores, supermarkets, motels, bars, restaurants, schools, colleges, clinics, and hospitals” are exempt from import taxes.

During the session, another bill was approved to name the sports complex in the municipality of San José de Ocoa in San José de Ocoa province after the Isa brothers. This project was proposed by Senator José Antonio Castillo Casado.

Additionally, the plenary session passed a project modifying articles 7 and 10 and repealing article 17 of Law No. 70 on Port Activity, submitted by Senator Ginnette Bournigal.

The senators also ratified the diplomatic appointments of Lourdes Margarita Franco Zimmermann as ambassador to the Republic of Finland, based in the Kingdom of Sweden, and Ramón Alejandro Arias Zarzuela as ambassador to the Republic of Belarus, based in Russia.

Senator Milcíades Franjul, following a motion by Senator Melania Salvador, offered a prayer in the chamber for the health of Senator Héctor Acosta, who represents the Monsignor Noel province.

Concluding the session, President Ricardo de los Santos scheduled the next session for Tuesday, June 4, at 2:00 in the afternoon.
